Culture, Nationalism and Geopolitics, elements to understand the Middle East conflict
Abstract
Some of the cultural elements that take part as causes of modern conflicts and are related with the intolerance towards the cultural diversity are underlined. The ethnicity, religion, and linguistic families are topics of interest for the social scientists who try to prevent and deactivate conflicts that generate death and desolation. The nationalism and regionalism from the late twentieth century and the early twenty-first century, threaten with new wars if the international community doesnt take part in a rational way in some of the conflict areas all over the world. The political origin of the conflict has been traditionally linked with the disrespect of the cultural differences, and the geopolitical interest for the lack of natural resources in some areas considered as strategic.
The arab-israeli conflict is the worst example of the intolerance towards the ancient cultures and the use of technology to destroy a mankinds part always with the support of some military and economic powers. In the global world in which science seems to have reached the zenith, the violence, poverty and death star the headlines of the most important international newspapers. Humanity seems not to understand that the first citizens peace. This might be the reason why old conflicts still have validity thanks to the implicit compliance of a huge majority of people who self-proclaim civilized.
