Social Order in Colombia in the XVIII and XIX Centuries
Abstract
This article aims at understanding the Colombian social process in the XIX century, centered both on a given social order configuration and on the role Los Notables, a specific group of power, played in it. The main approach of the analysis is based on historical sociology considering Elias’ proposal complemented with some elements taken from Bourdieu and Goffman’s work in connection with contemporary historical studies upon such period. Elements and mechanisms that establish a functional interdependence between the process of configuration of social order and the participation and status Los Notables had are determined.
