Manufacturing Sector in Colombia (1995-2005)

Abstract

This paper is the outcome of the research “Strategies for Including Colombian Firms in the Global Information Society. Relocation of Functions by means of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)”. This paper attempts to exhibit the setting and structure of The Colombian Industrial Sector from 1995 to 2005 through a literature review about developed industry in such a period and through a review of industrial statistics compiled by DNP, DANE and CEPAL. Aspects such as the status of the Colombian industry within the context of Latin America; its share in the national GDP; the development of manufacture employment; industrial performance according to firm size, among others, were considered. Also, data about the 1127 manufacturing firms taken as the whole universe for this study were included.
