View of Information Society in Latin America (2000 – 2007)
Abstract
This article seeks to locate Latin America in the international scenery of the called “Information Society” during the period 2000 – 2007. For that purpose, the main indexes developed by various nongovernmental organization are reviewed such as World Economic Forum, International Union of Telecommunication (IUT) and United Nation Conference on Trade and development (UNCTAD) in order to measure the incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies (from now on TICS) global and regionally. Moreover, main elements are conidered such as e-commerce in Latin America together with TICS infrastructure and their access both generally and at enterprises (through mobile telephone data, personal computers, internet and local area network, intranet and extranet) in the region.
