Abstract

The Meeting on Mathematics and Statistics Applied to Social and Economic Sciences has experienced significant growth in its fourth edition. This new version was organized by universities from Colombia, Paraguay, and Peru, where researchers from various countries virtually shared advances in applied sciences, addressing topics relevant to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The highlighted conferences included the use of mathematics in public health, Covid-19 simulation models, and studies on crime and corruption. The event explored applications in financial education, the environment, and health, and fostered commitments for ongoing collaboration in generating science in the region. In addition to disseminating research, this event aimed to promote innovative methodologies and collaborative projects to train scientists who, leveraging the rise of artificial intelligence and data analysis, can improve the quality of life for human beings by reducing social inequalities. The collaboration among academics from across the region demonstrates that geographical distance is not an obstacle to tackling the most pressing challenges of our time, as long as mathematical and statistical tools are used effectively.
